Visakhapatnam: As a part of the Navaratri festivities, the deity at Kanyaka Parameswari temple in the One Town area of the city was decorated as Mahalakshi, Goddess of wealth, and worshipped by scores of devotees on Sunday.

Devotees in large numbers were seen in serpentine queues at the temple since early hours to have a glimpse of the Goddess decked up in wads of currency notes amounting to Rs 2 crore on the occasion.

Besides currency notes, gold biscuits, golden crown, four kg of gold jewellery and other valuables were used for the decoration, according to festival committee chairman Maddi Jaganmohan.

Devotees believe that if their currency notes and valuables were used for the decoration of the Goddess, it would bring them luck and usher in prosperity. The festivities here also included performance of 'Ashtalakshmi puja', involving over 200 women, special abhishekam and other rituals.
