Srikakulam: Civil rights meet to curb atrocities

Srikakulam: The vigilance and monitoring committee meeting passed a unanimous resolution on conducting Civil Rights Day across the district on 30th of every month.

The meeting was held at the Collector's Office on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, Collector J Nivas directed the officials at mandal level to celebrate the Civil Rights Day to create awareness among people of SCs/STs on Acts regarding their welfare and protection. He also directed the officials to prepare pamphlets containing various Acts and orders regarding the welfare of SC/STs to distribute on Civil Rights Day.

He asked the police officials to submit details of cases regarding violations of SC and ST Welfare Act for the last ten years. The Collector also assured to vigilance and monitoring committee members to discuss about sanctioning of loans from cooperative banks to farmers who are having assigned lands belonging to SC and ST communities. YSRCP Rajam MLA K Jogulu expressed concern over rising number of cases regarding the harassment against SC and STs in the district.

He said in current year 59 cases were registered on this issue so far. YSRCP Palasa MLA S Appala Raju asked for granting of loans to SC and STs from all banks. Members from SC and ST unions demanded for recruitment of posts under backlog quota on quick pace. They also informed the collector that victims belonging to SC and STs were not yet received compensation from the government regarding Peddapadu, Bhamini, Thalada, Ghanasara incidents.

The members also demanded for holding of vigilance committee meetings at mandal-level for effective monitoring on the implementation of Acts. SP R N Ammi Reddy, DRO Balivada Dayanidhi, RDOs, DSPs and public prosecutors participated in the meeting.
