Srikakulam: Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Alla Kali Krishna Srinivas alias Nani on Saturday said that a new dialysis unit will be established at Haripuram in Mandasa mandal within a month to help the kidney patients.
Inspecting dialysis units at Palasa and Sompeta government hospitals on Saturday where kidney patients in Uddanam area are being treated, along with Speaker Tammineni Sitaram and Minister for Roads
and Buildings Dharmana Krishna Das, Nani directed the officials to appoint nephrology expert doctor at Palasa government hospital in a week to serve patients locally. The Minister said that Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy was planning to find a permanent solution to the disease and as part of it he sanctioned safe drinking water project worth Rs 700 crore for Uddanam. He added that beds strength will be enhanced at Palasa and Sompeta dialysis units soon to serve more patients.
The ministers also interacted with kidney patients at Boddapadu village in Palasa mandal. Speaking at the interaction, a kidney patient R Appala Swamy requested the Speaker and Ministers to find a permanent solution to the disease. He said that he was receiving Rs 5,000 as pension every month but spending Rs 10,000 for treatment at a private hospital in Visakhapatnam every month. "If I am a healthy person, I can earn at least Rs 15,000 every month. So, we need permanent solution to the diseases," he said.
