Srikakulam: MLA S Appala Raju helps migrant workers reach home district
Srikakulam: The bus carrying migrant workers was stopped at for Covid-19 check-post along Andhra-Odisha border for one day. According Meliaputti sub-inspector of police P Siddardha Kumar, a total of 28 migrant workers belonging to
Akkupalli, Badapalli, Yerramukkam and Pundi villages in Palasa Assembly segment returned from Bhilai in Chhattisgarh State. They obtained permits from Chhattisgarh authorities and also got permission also for travelling via Gunupur and Parlakimidi in Odisha State also.
When they reached the AP border at Pattupuram village under Meliaputti mandal in Srikakulam district, the bus carrying the workers was stopped as they did not obtain permits to enter the district. Initially the migrated workers tried to communicate their problem to district officials, but in vain.
Finally, they contacted YSRCP Palasa MLA S Appala Raju and the legislator also tried to contact the District Collector and Joint Collector, but both the officials did not respond.
Finally the MLA rushed to Pattupuram check-post along with the local Palasa Covid-19 team in early hours on Wednesday and persuaded the check-post officials by promisin to send the workers to relief camps. With intervention of the MLA, the ordeal experienced by the workers came to an end.
