Srikakulam: Seeds to be supplied through biometric system

Srikakulam: Seeds for coming kharif season will be supplied through biometric system in the district to avoid irregularities, said District Collector J Nivas. Speaking to media here on Monday, the Collector said the agriculture department would arrange 250 machines for the purpose.

Farmers' Aadhaar card details, land documents would be verified and finger impression of farmers also would be taken before suppling of seeds, he added. "We have prepared an action plan that 75,000 quintals of seeds are required in current kharif season," the Collector said and added farmers can get 30 kgs of seed bag by paying Rs 660 after 30 per cent subsidy.

AP Seeds Corporation would make arrangements to supply seeds in a hassle-free manner, the Collector elaborated. Government banned the use of 1001 variety paddy seed and as an alternative 1075 and 7029 seed would be supplied, he stated. The Collector requested the farmers not to pay more price than MRP even to private dealers for seed and he asked the farmers to register a complaint in this regard if any dealer collects more.
