Stadiums cry for attention in Srikakulam
Srikakulam: Construction of stadiums, sports development centres and multipurpose sports complex works have been going on at snail's pace in the district. District Sports Development Officer (DSDO) is supervising these works under the District Sports Development Authority (DSDA). But due to lack of attention during the TDP regime, the works have been going on at snail's pace.
In all 10 Assembly segments, in total 10 sports development centres (SDC) sanctioned in the district during TDP regime. Of it, works completed upto 90 per cent in Amudalavalasa, Palakonda, Pathapatnam and Tekkali Assembly segments and finishing works are pending.
In remaining eight SDCs in Etcherla, Rajam, Narasannapeta, Palasa and Itchapuram segments, works have been going on at snail's pace. In Srikakulam segment, SDC proposed at Kalingapatnam
where works are not yet started, and tenders also not finalised since February 2018. In Srikakulam rural mandal at Patrunivalasa, multipurpose sports complex proposed in an extent of 33 acres land. Previous government sanctioned Rs 50 crore for it and works started in January 2018 and have to complete in 18 months period but still compound wall works are going on here.
In Srikakulam city also modernisation works for existing Kodi Rammurthy stadium have been going on at snail's pace for the last two years. "We are supervising works progress every day and managing director of Sports Authority of AP (SAAP) is reviewing on works every week and funds also available for stadiums to complete them," DSDO B Srinivasa Kumar told The Hans India.
