State government plans to develop Rayalaseema as tourism circuit

Anantapur: The AP Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) is initiating steps to develop Rayalaseema as a tourism circuit by showcasing the cultural richness of the region. The Peace Memorial Hall in the city which was renovated stands as a testimony to the memoirs of the second world war. Later, the Britishers constructed the war memorial in the town.

Dharmavaram Handloom sarees and Puttaparathi pilgrim town have placed the district on the world map. For tourists, the Gooty Fort, Rayadurgam and Penukonda Forts provide a rich feast of history. The Prashanthi Nilayam of Bhagawan Sathya Sai Baba at Puttaparthi is an international tourist religious destination which still attracts devotees from overseas countries.

The Thimamma Marri Manu, the 600 years old Botanical marvel which was recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records is still attracting tourists. Veerapuram village is a home to hundreds of Painted Stocks where the forest department had created conducive climate for the seasonal visit of the birds.

Rayalaseema Tourism Development Officer B Eshwaraiah told 'The Hans India' that an action plan is under implementation to develop historical places as sites for tourism attraction. Basic amenities will be created at the identified places.

The Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy temple in Kadiri and the Sri Chintala Venkata Ramana Swamy temple and Sri Bugga Rama Lingeswara Swamy Temple in Tadipatri are known for their architectural beauty. Lepakshi temple has historical significance.

As one walks through the dusty lanes of Penukonda, history comes alive. The touching tales of Emperor Sri Krishna Devaraya also haunt history lovers and makes one nostalgic when looking at the fort and other buildings of a bygone era.
