Steps to educate girl children highlighted: Andhra University
Visakhapatnam: Dr Durgabai Deshmukh Centre for Women's Studies on Friday observed the 'International Day of the Girl Child.' In-charge director of the centre P. Usha briefed on the rise in child abuse cases and child trafficking and spoke about ways to control the same.
Andhra University Registrar V Krishna Mohan pointed out that the social evils such as child marriage, child abuse and child labour should be eliminated and steps should be taken to educate girl children and help them to have a better future.
Principal of Dr B R Ambedkar College of Law, Andhra University, S Sumitra attended the programme as special invitee and highlighted the importance of educating girls and how it makes a difference in empowering them.
Later, Sumitra explained steps to be considered to protect child rights. Girl students of Andhra University High School and the staff and students of the centre took part in the programme.
