Amaravati: The war between the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) and the AP Government over utilisation of Krishna water by the latter took a new turn on Tuesday with the former writing a letter seeking a halt to lifting of Krishna water from Nagarjunasagar Right Canal, Handri-Neeva and Machumarri lift irrigation schemes. In a letter released on Tuesday to Engineering-in-Chief of AP, Paramesham, Member-Secretary of the Board, said that Andhra Pradesh had drawn more than its quota of water allocated till May and hence it should stop using further water forthwith and oblige without fail.

The Member-Secretary said in all 158.255 tmc ft of water was allocated to Andhra Pradesh through Nagarjunasagar Right Canal, but, the latter had already used 158.264 tmc ft. Similarly, 47.173 tmc ft was allocated through the said lift irrigation schemes, but 48.328 tmc ft was utilised so far. Hence, the State Government was urged to stop drawing further water from the two - the right canal and the lift irrigation schemes.
