Strive for expanding natural farming, Agri staff told

Vizianagaram: The district officials of Agriculture department are planning to expand natural farming to new areas. On Monday, the department organised a training programme- cum- awareness session in Vizianagaram to train up the cluster resource persons and cluster activists. On this occasion K Chandra Nayak, Joint Director of Agriculture instructed the field staff to conduct awareness programmes in villages and bring more number of farmers and more land into this module.

``It's our aim and target to convert 40,000 acres of land into natural farming. We should protect the land, soil , water, atmosphere by reducing carbon and other chemical emissions. Natural farming is the best way to reduce carbon which is being produced by chemical farming. Ghana Jeevamrutham and Drava Jeevamrutham and green manure are the best inputs to make soil more fertile,'''he said.

K Prakash, District Project Manager advised the staff to make farmers to cover the fields either with crops or crop residuals to protect nutrients from scorching sun light. The land, soil should not be kept vacant and the farmers should sow some crop or the other throughout the year, he said.

G Hemasundar, agriculture officer instructed the staff to visit villages and maintain good relations with locals and encourage them to practice natural farming. AEO Janaki , S Gangaraju and others participated in the programme.
