60 sheep die in Kurnool dist

Kurnool: As many as 60 sheep died as they were struck by lightning at Gargeyapuram village under Taluka police station limits on Sunday. At several places in Kurnool district, the atmosphere changed suddenly and the sky covered with dark clouds. Cool breeze followed by gusty winds and thunders and in no time there was heavy down pour.

About 60 shops died as they were struck by lightning at Gargeyapuram. The shepherds who feed their family members are now in great loss. The shepherds in the village said that they have lost livestock worth around Rs.10 lakh. They urged the government to save them from this huge loss.

Kodumur MLA, J Sudhakar visited the village on Monday and consoled the shepherds. Expressing his sympathy over the huge loss, he assured financial assistance from the government. Later speaking to media persons , the legislator said that it is natural calamity. He said that he will take the issue to the notice of senior leaders and will strive that the shepherds get financial aid.

The MLA further said that he will speak to the district administration to assess the loss and pursue insurance claims or other benefits to the shepherds. Several trees were uprooted, and electric poles damaged due to the unseasonal heavy down pour combined with winds. The electrical department as a precautionary measure, has stopped power supply at several areas in the district. After 7 to 8 hours of laborious work, the departmental personnel could be able to restore power supply. The loss is yet to be assessed by the department.
