Student enrolment in government schools expected to go up this year in Srikakulam district

Srikakulam: Enrolment of students from class-I to class-X is expected to increase in government schools in Srikakulam district. In the wake of lockdown, about 2 lakh migrated workers returned to Srikakulam along with their families. Most of them have decided to remain in the district.

The migrant workers are expected to admit their children in the government schools, which include Municipal and Zilla Parishad educational institutions during this current academic year.

There are a total 81,166 students in 2,373 government primary schools, 39,948 students in 429 upper primary schools and 1,30, 319 students in 483 high schools in the district.

Apart from it, the welfare schemes, like Amma Vodi and free supply of books may also contribute to increase number of students joining the government schools.

A case study at Muddadapeta under Etcherla mandal showed that as many as 30 more students may enrol in the government schools in addition to 46 students studying in these educational institutions now. It means that four teachers are required now if the enrolment goes up. One more teacher post should be created in this mandal.

"The government need to consider our demand to continue system without disturbance and without reducing teachers' posts as enrolment of students is expected to improve this year" said AP Teachers' Federation (APTF) State unit member P Srirama Murthy, district general secretary B Subash Babu. "We will forward the teachers' unions demands to the government," District Educational Officer (DEO) K Chandra Kala said.
