Student JAC lays siege to Collectorate demanding High Court in Kurnool
Kurnool: Rayalaseema Students Joint Action Committee (JAC) on Saturday staged laid a siege to the District Collectorate in support of its demand for establishment of High Court in Kurnool. The police foiled the attempt by the agitators to barge into the Collectorate. The police arrested the agitators and shifted them to three town police station.
Tension built up at the Collectorate as a large number of JAC leaders assembled at the Collectorate. Scuffles broke out between the agitators and the police.The police, however, adopted restraint and tackled the situation without resorting to force.
The JAC leaders Sriramulu, Chandrappa, Rama Krishna Reddy and Ravi Kumar demanded that the State government set up High Court in Kurnool and shift State capital to Rayalaseem region. They even demanded the completion of Gundrevula, Vedavathy, Rajoli Banda Diversion Scheme (RDS) and Siddeswaram Alugu projects.
The JAC urged the government to grant Rs 10 lakh ex gratia to the kin of those who committed suicide. They also stressed the need to promote industrialisation in the region to provide employment.
The JAC leaders appealed to Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to declare that the High Court would be shifted to Kurnool. The agitators urged the MLAs and people's representatives to mount pressure on the Chief Minister to ensure that their demands are met.
Shiva, Anji, Prakash, Suresh, Bharat, Venkatesh, Ramachandrudu, Rama Raju, Lazarus, Rangamuni Naidu and several student leaders participated in the programme.
