Vizianagaram: Tension prevailed at district collectorate here on Thursday when SFI activists tried to lay siege to the office with demanding release of hostel bills, which have been pending for the past four months.

Hundreds of students gathered at the collectorate and demanded that the collector come out to listen their grievances. They appealed the government to release the pending bills for hostels and scholarships, which have not been released for the past four months. They demanded that the funds be released immediately.

But the district officials told the students that the collector was busy with some other meeting and asked them to explain their problems to DRO who would convey the same to the collector. But the student did not relent and tried to barge into the office. But the police stopped them at the main gate which resulted in jostling between police and students. Later, police arrested the students and brought the situation under control.
