Supreme Court serves notices to Centre,Election Commission On Banning cash transfer schemes before elections

Vijayawada: The Supreme Court on Tuesday served notices to the Union Government and the Election Commission of India after allowing a special leave petition filed Dr Pentapati Pulla Rao urging the Apex Court to declare cash transfer schemes null and void to various beneficiaries six months before elections.

The petitioner cited the example of AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu who introduced cash transfer schemes like Pasupu Kunkuma, Annadata Sukhibhava just before elections.

Appealing to the Apex Court to declare such schemes against the spirit of the Constitution, the petitioner underlined the importance of framing specific guidelines in case of such schemes.

Concurring with the argument of the petitioner, the Apex Court served notices to the Central Government and Election Commission.
