Supreme Court stays Andhra High court orders of examining constitutional breakdown in state

The government of Andhra Pradesh headed by chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has got relief from the Supreme Court on Friday with the court issuing the stay orders on High Court proceedings on the issue of the constitutional breakdown in the AP. The AP High Court stayed the orders on these petitions. The Supreme Court bench made key remarks during the hearing. It said the High Court orders were alarming did not understand why the judge said so and opined that the system had not collapsed. The High Court comments were disturbing said the supreme court said. The next hearing was adjourned until after the winter holidays.

Police in Andhra Prades has filed habeas corpus petitions in the High Court over law violations. It is learnt that the High Court is hearing a petition filed by former MLA Tenali Sravan Kumar alleging that the police are harassing those who are peacefully protesting against the move of the capital.

On October 1, the High Court issued directions to find out whether there was a breach of the Constitution. Challenging this, Andhra Pradesh government filed a petition in the Supreme Court. The bench of CJ Justice S Bobde, which heard the case on Friday, directed to maintain the status quo on the High Court orders.
