Vijayawada: Former minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao said that it was not a personal matter for the Chief Ministers of AP and Telangana to cancel the Apex Council which sorts out the water sharing disputes between the states.

Speaking to media persons here on Sunday, the former water resources development minister said that Parliament made a law for establishing the Apex Council. He wondered as to how the two Chief Ministers would make plans to scrap it.

He said that Andhra Pradesh would face many challenges from the proposal. The farmers would suffer heavy loss with the plans of AP Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy whose sole aim seemed to be his self-interest. He said that the Opposition TDP has a responsibility to fight to protect the interests of farmers.

Wondering why the two Chief Ministers had not revealed the details of their meetings, he asserted that they did not have any right to take decisions secretly. He also questioned Jagan Mohan Reddy why he did not react to the issue of electricity employees being shifted to AP from the Telangana.

He pointed out that Jagan never asked Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao about the electricity dues from Telangana after the state bifurcation.
