TDP leaders taken into preventive custody, released

Guntur: Police took TDP Fact-Finding Committee members and TDP MLCs Dokka Manikya Varaprasad, Bachula Arujunudu, MLA Maddali Giridhar Rao, TDP district president G V Anjaneyulu and former MLA Tenali Sravan kumar into preventive custody on Saturday while they were proceeding to Ponugupadu village in Narasaraopet revenue division to inquire about construction of a compound wall on the road.

When they reached a point located at a distance of one kilometer from Ponugupadu village, the police took the TDP leaders into preventive custody and shifted them to a government guest house in Narasaraopet as a precautionary measure and later they released them.

According to revenue officials, a section of people constructed the wall on the Gramakantam land at Ponugupadu. Prior to construction of the wall, some families used the land as a road. After YSRCP came to power, they constructed the wall while other group is opposing it. Both groups lodged complaints against each other.

Meanwhile, the TDP and YSRCP activists were having a dispute over the construction of the wall. Speaking to the media, Narasaraopet RDO M Venkateswarulu said, "They will verify the revenue records to know further details of the land at Ponugupadu where a wall was constructed."

Narasaraopet DSP M Veera Reddy said, " Section-144 was in force. As a precautionary measure we have taken the TDP leaders into preventive custody and later released them."
