Tirupati: 2,800 students take part in All-India Inter Agri Universities Sports Meet
Tirupati: All-India Inter Agri Universities Sports Meet was kicked off on a grand note here at S V Veterinary University Stadium on Sunday.
Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Deputy Director General (DDG) RC Agarwal inaugurated the sports meet by unfurling tricolor and ICAR flags at the Stadium.
Earlier, he received honorary salute from students' contingents as part of march fast at stadium. Over 2,800 students from 65 universities across the India participated in the march fast.
To mark the occasion, DDG R C Agarwal and VC SVVU Y Haribabu and other officials released the pigeons and balloons into air in the sports meet.
Addressing the students' teams, Agarwal said that ICAR was encouraging the agricultural students to excel their talent in all types of sports events. As part of it, every year the ICAR was regularly conducting inter-universities sports meet at national-level. This time SVV University has come forward to conduct this national inter agri universities sports meet here.
As far as academic issues concerned, ICAR is improving the quality in agricultural related education and research among students and in the line, funds are being allocated to all agricultural and veterinary universities of the country.
Agarwal appealed to all the participants who are representing various universities that everyone should follow the guidelines framed by the ICAR pertaining to conducting of sports meet.
In the inaugural function, VC SV Veterinary University Tirupati Dr Y Haribabu told that SVVU was encouraging the students to maintain fitness and participating in various sports. He informed the varsity developed stadium and indoor shuttle court and other sports facilities to encourage students towards sports. The VC assured that varsity will extend all cooperation to ICAR for organising any national level event.
SVVU dean students' affairs Dr Kapa Sarjan Rao welcomed the participants and their team officials. SVVU officials Prof Srinivasulu, Padmanaba Reddy, Chandra Shekar Rao and Srinivas Rao were present.
