Tirupati: Taking the death of a patient who succumbed after ambulance drivers mafia obstructed his vehicle going home, Tirupati urban police on Wednesday arrested three ambulance drivers involved in the blocking of the vehicle.

According to a police press release on Wednesday, based on the complaint from the victim's relative and also SVRR hospital superintendent, the police arrested the three drivers, David, Krishna and Prabhu, involved in the blocking of vehicle and booked non-bailable case against them.

The patient, K Venkatappa of Kallavaripalli in Rompicherla mandal, Chittoor district, who was in a serious condition breathed his last after the vehicle in which the relatives were taking him to the village was obstructed by the private ambulance drivers for engaging another vehicle online ignoring them.

Tirupati Urban SP A Ramesh Reddy taking the tragic death of the patient seriously on Wednesday visited SVRR hospital to personally enquire the circumstances that led to the death of the patient and the role of private ambulance drivers mafia.

SP made it clear that none of the private ambulance drivers would be spared if they cross the limits and wanted them strictly confined to the rates officially fixed. He wanted the public to report to the police or to him if they face any difficulty from the private ambulance drivers.
