New mini vegetable market gets ready at Vaikuntapuram in Tirupati

Tirupati : The Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) is planning to expand markets and provide more facilities in them. For this, the corporation began construction of new markets in various residential areas in the city. The city earlier has only one market, Indira Priyadarshini market, which was unable to cater the needs of increasing number of consumers.

In view of this problem, Tirupati MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy suggested to the municipal commissioner P S Girisha to increase the marketing facilities in various residential areas in the city. As per his instructions, officials took up constructions of new mini markets under the smart city project. First they had completed one mini market with 30 shop shops at a cost of Rs 58 lakh near Vaikuntapuram Municipal Park.

A second mini market has been started at Vinayaka Sagar adjacent to Karakambadi road at a cost of Rs 3.50 crore with three-storey building. Once this market is completed, around 60 shops would be available for vegetable and grocery vendors.

In addition, another mini market works are going on DBR Hospital road at a cost of Rs 68 lakh.

After the completion, it serves the needs of Korlagunta, Maruthi Nagar, Chintala Chenu, Kottapalli and Sanjay Gandhi Colony residents. MCT commissioner Girisha is planning two more mini markets on the western part of the city to serve Giripuram, ChennaReddy Colony, Khadi Colon and TTD quarters residents.

As of now temporary markets are running at SV High School Grounds, Hare Rama Hare Krishna Road and Bairagipatteda MGM school premises. With the lockdown experience, officials are eager to expand market facilities in the city as early as possible.

Tirupati MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy said that for many years market facilities were very nominal in the city. "In view of that I suggested to the civic body officials to take up mini markets across the city to reduce the commuting time and traffic woes of people," he said.
