Tirupati: Migrant labourers leave for Odisha by Shramik train
Tirupati: As many as 1,320 migrant labourers from Odisha state were left by Shramik Special Train from Tirupati Railway station to their native state on Thursday amidst loud claps by district and Railway officials who gave a warm send-off to the labourers.
The migrant labourers were mostly engaged in brick industries located in Tirupati division and also in the unorganised sector as daily wage workers in construction and other works in the city and surrounding places.
Joint Collector II and district nodal officer for Covid-19 said that the labourers who were registered in the government Spandana portal underwent a medical check-up before they were issued journey tickets to go back to their state. All precautions were taken for the safe journey of the migrants, he said adding that the brick industries association provided food, water bottles to the migrants.
It may be noted that about 20,000 migrants working in various places in Chittoor district who were registered with the district administration in which nearly 17,000 were sent back to their home states including UP, MP, Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar etc. by special Sramik Trains.
Railway Station Manager Rajendra Prasad, Tirupati Urban Tahsildar Venkataramana and other officials were present.
