Tirupati: Provide succour to handloom weavers, MLA Roja urges government

Tirupati: YSRCP Nagari MLA RK Roja sought the government to take up relief measures to bail out the handloom weavers facing crisis following the nationwide lockdown.

MLA Roja met Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and also Industries Minister Mekapati Gowtham Reddy who is also district in-charge minister, in Amaravati on Monday. She submitted a representation on the handloom weavers issue.

In her representation, Roja said that the majority of handloom weavers are in Nagari area including Puttur, Narayanavanam, Satrawada,Chintapatteda and KVP peta and were hit hard due to non-availability of raw materials and steep fall in the market for their products. She stressed that the handlooms which comes under cottage industries category is in dire need of government support for its revival in the interest of thousands poor weavers.
