Tirupati: Rains bring abundant inflows into dams

Tirupati: Major water sources to temple town Tirumala received copious inflows thanks to the incessant rains in Seshachalam forests. The twin dams Kumardhara –Pasupudhara is overflowing while Papavinasam dam crossed 65 percent of its storage capacity and the water level in Gogarbham dam also increased substantially bringing cheers to the TTD management.

According to sources, the twin dams Kumaradhara-Pasupudhara which has the total storage capacity of 5,300 lakh gallons is overflowing since Monday due to heavy inflows in its catchment area and the waters from the dam are reaching Papavinsam located in the down reaches.

While the smaller dam Akasaganga is also full to its storage capacity which is 670 lakh gallons and in the Gogarbham dam the water available now (till Tuesday morning) is1,743 lakh gallons against its capacity of 2,683 lakh gallons.

The rains which started on Saturday turned heavy on Sunday and continued till Monday resulting in copious inflows in allthe dams in Tirumala. The daily water requirements of Tirumala is about 32 lakh gallons on week days which will go up to40 lakh gallons on crowded days.

Sources said that with the significant inflows in Kalyani dam near Tirupati, there will be sufficient water in Tirumala for more than a year. Meanwhile, the two waterfalls Kapilatheertham and Malavanigunda areflowing in full attracting the locals and pilgrims in hundreds.
