Tirupati: SPMVV Home Science students win National-level first prize in skit

Tirupati: A team of six Home Science students of Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV) made their institution proud by winning first prize for their skit at national level.

During the 35th National Youth Festival held at Amity University, Noida, from February 3-7 and organised by Association of Indian Universities (AIU), the team presented their skit in 'Theatre event; along with 14 other teams and secured top place.

The skit presented by SPMVV team was, 'Bharatavanilo Balipasuvu,' a mythological concept, manifesting the story of great warrior Barbareek, the son of Ghatotkacha and grandson of Bheemasena. He learnt the warfare from his mother Maurvi. During the Mahabharat war, Lord Krishna advocated that the bravest one should sacrifice his head to start the war aiming Barbareek's head. Thus, he sacrificed for preserving dharma.

Though other teams also presented good themes, SPMVV team dominated them in every aspect to remain on top. The Cultural Coordinator of the team Dr U Himabindu explained to The Hans India that they were in fact indebted to the writer and director of the skit Dr MS Chowdary of Vijayawada. He made the team, work hard to get the best out of them.

Earlier, the team got third place at the Zonal level youth fest held at Alagappa University, Karaikkudi in December.

For nationals, winners of top three prizes at zonal level have qualified and 1,300 students and 200 managers and associate staff from 93 universities have participated at that fest. Significantly from AP, only SPMVV and Yogi Vemana University have participated.

"The competition levels have been increasing every year and unless students show the best out of them, it would be difficult to secure a prize. But, winning the first prize was not an ordinary thing for which the students and the director deserve due credits for their dedication", maintained Dr Himabindu. In the march fast event at the inaugural function also SPMVV got third place.

During the 35 years of national youth fests, AP has never won a first prize in theatre event, which the students Sai Prasanna, Venkata Kumari, Devika, Naimisha, Ashwini and Durga Devi of SPMVV made possible this time.

Rector Prof V Uma, Registrar, Prof DM Mamatha and other colleagues' cooperation in this regard was unforgettable in achieving the target, said Dr Himabindu. The new Vice- Chancellor, Prof D Jamuna, also promised to extend all cooperation to earn more accolades in the forthcoming events, she added. Meanwhile, SPMVV cultural teams are going to participate in South Asian Youth Fest from February 24-28 to be held at Kurukshethra University, Haryana. They will participate in light vocal and group folk dance events.
