Tirupati: Students hail killing of accused in Disha's rape, murder in encounter
Tirupati: Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV) students hailed the killing of the four accused in the rape and murder of Hyderabad veterinarian Disha at Chintanpalli in an encounter in the early hours of Friday.
The students gathered at the Humanities block and raised slogans against the accused and in favour of Telangana police. They exchanged sweets and said that this encounter turned into a warning to those who try to attack women. Disha's soul will now rest in peace, they felt.
They also performed 'Palabhishekam' to the pictures of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and Cyberabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar before the Gandhi statue in the campus.
It may be recalled that the students of SPMVV organised a protest on the next day after the heinous incident took place and demanded stringent punishment in the midst of public to the accused.
Students of Veterinary University also welcomed the encounter and lauded Telangana police for their act which will send strong signals to anyone trying to attack women sexually. RR Educational Institutions students displayed a banner congratulating the police with the caption 'That is Police' at Municipal Corporation office.
In SV University, YSR Students and Youth wings have celebrated the encounter saying that Telangana government and police have taken the correct decision with which the soul of Disha will rest in peace. The rape and murder of Disha was heinous and the society is ashamed of it, said the leaders of the association L Rajasekhar Reddy and Dr B Obul Reddy. Madhava Reddy, Purna, Sadasiva, Charan and others took part.
They distributed sweets to women faculty and students of the university. They also paid tributes to Dr BR Ambedkar on his death anniversary. University Registrar Dr P Sreedhar Reddy also took part in the programme.
