Tirupati: SV University organises 'Power Walk'

Tirupati: A power walk programme was organised by the Women Studies centre of SV University in Tirupati on Tuesday. Rector Prof G Sundaravalli, Registrar Prof P Sreedhar Reddy, Tirupati ASP Supraja, SVU College of Arts Principal Prof K Padmini and Director of women studies centre Prof D Krishna Murthy inaugurated the walk at SV University Administrative building.

Addressing the gathering, Rector Sundaravalli said that the aim of the power walk is to bring awareness on the equal rights of women. Registrar Sreedhar Reddy called upon the women to exercise their rights with courage. ASP Supraja stated that it is the duty of police to ensure the safety of women and girl children. DISHA police stations and Mahila Rakshak teams have been functioning towards this goal only, she said.

Prof Krishna Murthy opined that every woman should be aware of their rights and freedom and exercise them without any fear. The programme has been organised on the directions given by AP Mahila Commission. The power walk went up to Mahatma Jyothi Rao Pule statue at Balaji Colony and returned back to the University.

SPW Degree and PG College Principal Dr Mahadevamma, Uma Maheswari, faculty of women studies centre Dr Ramana, Dr Jagadeeswari, Dr Sreelatha Kishori, Dr Rajarajeswari, Dr Suneetha and students in large numbers took part.
