Tirupati: SVIMS tops in implementation of YSR Aarogyasri scheme

Tirupati: SVIMS has been in the forefront among government hospitals in the state in providing healthcare to poor people by implementing Dr YSR Aarogyasri scheme, said the Director-cum-Vice-Chancellor Dr B Vengamma. Delivering the annual report of the institution on the occasion of the 27th Anniversary Day celebrations of the Institute on Wednesday, she said that they have conducted 526 camps under the scheme and another 219 camps under SVIMS outreach, amounting an expenditure of nearly Rs 398.65 crore worth of free service through public financing schemes and SVIMS funds.

Under Pranadana scheme of TTD so far 19,680 patients have undergone treatment while Rs 93.30 crore were spent and has been getting global recognition and was featured in Pulitzer center, USA patient stories. Stating that the clinical services of the Institute have grown substantially year after year, she revealed that during 2019, 5,50,635 outpatients, 46,054 in patients were treated while 14,232 surgeries have been done. Also, 23,57,754 laboratory investigations were performed, she added.

She stated several of their faculty members and post-graduate students have excelled by securing 52 prestigious awards at national and international levels, editorial assignments and have delivered orations. As part of spiritual health programme, concerts by the TTD Annamacharya Project artistes were being held regularly on every Saturday and Sunday between 4 to 5 pm in general wards, she stated and added yoga and meditation OPD were also being run for the last six months.

Chief guest Dr Y Subhashini, Professor of Medicine, USA, has advised the students to tap the opportunities to utilise all resources available. "Teachers are important who provide wisdom and students have to utilise every teacher in order to acquire that wisdom. They should also learn how to become great teachers," she said.

Guest of honour Prof Bhaskar C Harinath of Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Sevagram, Wardha has presented a holistic view of medicine and underlined the importance of nature, nutrition and meditation.

Satyavedu MLA K Adimulam MLC Y Sreenivasulu Reddy, Dean Dr M Hanumantha Rao, Registrar Dr Sreedharbabu and Principal of Sri Padmavati Medical College for Women Dr Sarandeep Singh have participated in the programme. The dignitaries have released the Annual Report of the Institute.
