Tirupati: Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) is planning to develop farmers lands as modern housing colonies at Settipalli village of Tirupati Urban Mandal to generate income with the partnership of farmers.

In this direction, TUDA Chairman Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy and Vice-Chairman Harikrishna held discussions with revenue officials on the problems being faced by farmers in connection with the lands. It may be noted that for the past 50 years, farmers of Settipalli village have been fighting for ownership rights on their lands. Due to various controversies, District Revenue officials had not issued pattas and pass books for these lands.

After YSRCP came to power Chandragiri MLA and TUDA Chairman and present District Collector N Bharat Guptha have taken steps to solve the problems pertaining to Settipalli lands. They have set up special revenue cell at TUDA office to resurvey the lands in the village.

In due course, farmers can obtain property ownership rights on their lands. In this regard, TUDA Chairman had already discussed with farmers to take over the lands for layout development on the basis of profit sharing.

TUDA will develop the total 620 acres of lands in a phased manner. In the first phase, urban development officials are planning to develop housing layouts with modern facilities in 160 acres.

After completion of layout development, TUDA will hand over the farmers share in the form of residential plots. The previous TDP government had planned to develop these lands as economic city. Whereas the present TUDA Board has changed the plan and started process to develop satellite townships in Settipalli lands with farmers partnership.
