Triple talaq reflects male chauvinism
Vijayawada: The newly enacted Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019 or simply the Triple Talaq Abolition Act should be a precursor for the common civil code, said Hari Subrahmanyam, president of Nastika Mitra Mandali while addressing a meeting organised at the Atheist Centre here on Friday.
The tradition of triple talaq reflects the male chauvinism in the society, he said.
"Though the Constitution guarantees equality for everyone in the country, human rights are being violated in the name of religious traditions and rituals," he opined.
The discrimination against women is more in the Muslim community. "It is common to rebel against the reforms which are aimed at removing the age-old traditions," he said.
