Unions stage protest in front of UBC: CITU
Srikakulam: Representatives of workers' union of united beverages company (UBC) demanded that the management retain all workers. The workers staged a protest in front of the company main gate at Pydibhimavaram under Ranastalam mandal on Sunday under the aegis of CITU.
The trade union launched agitation following UBC management deciding to retrench some workers due to fall in demand for its produce in the wake of State government's new liquor policy. There are 600 total workers in the company and the management asked a group of workers to stop coming for work from November 25.
On learning about it, the UBC workers union representatives and CITU leaders staged a protest in front of the UBC. Speaking on the occasion CITU State vice-president Duppala Govinda Rao and district secretary P Tejeswara Rao demanded that the UBC management should not retrench the workers.
