Vizianagaram: The people in the district are facing sleepless nights for the past few days due to unscheduled power cuts. The residents don't know when the power comes and when the power goes out. Daily the Transco officials are implementing four hours power cut. The people of state never faced any power related issues in the past few years and there is no authorised power cuts also. As a result, the people, especially small vendors, traders, farmers are happy.

But the situation is completely changed and now, the people are expressing their displeasure over the staff on this issue. The power interruptions are irking the people, especially children and senior citizens. K Paidi Raju, a juice shop vendor at RTC complex, told, "I have been selling the juices of Rs 2,500 per day for the past few weeks. But now I can't sell more than Rs 1,000 juices per day. I am not a big trader to maintain generator. We can't say when the power will come and when it goes off. This is a major disadvantage for small vendors like me." During night time, the public is facing trouble to use their fans, air coolers and air-conditions due to the power cuts.

Even the flour mills, xerox shops and electric mechanics are also facing the same problem. The electricians can't complete their work without the power supply. K Anjali of Thotapalem colony said that she is facing the power cut for the past one week while operating her electric cooker and washing machine, mixer grinder. "Recently I need to wait for four hours to take out our dresses from my washing machine as the power went off while the clothes were put in the machine. Even our flat residents need to wait for power to put on our motor pump set," she said.

An assistant engineer of EPDCL told that "there is no official power cuts in our district. But we are undertaking pre-monsoon maintenance works under every sub-station. Even sometimes load relief measures also being undertaken. So, the public is feeling that we are imposing power cuts but it's not the fact."
