Markapuram: The members of displaced families from submerging villages due to Pula Subbaiah Veligonda Project staged a protest in front of the Veligonda Project Guest House in Dornala demanding that the collector enhance the rehabilitation and resettlement package and provide one government job to each of the families.

Learning about the collector's review meeting with the revenue, engineering, and land acquisition officials, people from the displacing villages like Gundamcharla, Kalanuthala, Sunkesula, Gottipadiya, and others reached the guest house on Thursday. They raised slogans and protested in front of the gate for two hours. The collector invited one person from each village for talks, in which the locals demanded him to enhance the R&R package from Rs 12.5 lakh to Rs 20 lakh. They also demanded the collector to provide government employment to the qualified unemployed youth from the displacing families. The collector informed the delegation that he will take their demands to the notice of the government. The Peddaraveedu mandal Congress party convener DK Mastan, CPM leaders Gali Venkatarami Reddy, Somaiah, Displacing youth association president Nandireddy Chandrasekhar Reddy, Yeruva Srinivasulu and others also participated in the program.
