151 special teams deployed to restore power supply in cyclone-hit areas

Vijayawada: The Electricity department has arranged 151 special teams in Nellore, Kadapa and Chittoor districts to restore the power supply in the Cyclone Nivar-affected areas on war-footing.

According to officials of SPDCL, Nivar Cyclone damaged power infrastructure, including 33 kv feeders, 11 kv feeders, distribution transformers (DTR) and 33 kv and 11 kv poles in some parts of the districts. The loss was estimated as Rs 5. 07 crore and a report was sent to the State government by the SPDCL.The officials are trying to restore power on a war-footing.

Energy secretary Srikant Nagulaplli on Sunday directed DISCOM officials to lay special focus on power supply to domestic and water supply schemes and complete all restoration works as soon as possible.

He informed that the power supply to all the remaining villages will be restored by Sunday evening and damaged poles of 33KV and 11KV and sick DTRs of agriculture services will be rectified within two days. Water work services normalcy is being restored on a war footing.

The Secretary appreciated the efforts of CMD APSPDCL, H Haranatha Rao and his team of DISCOMs including the district officers for restoring supply in the cyclone-affected areas.

Control Rooms were established at division level in three districts to monitor restoration works and control power supply position. Four superintending engineers were deputed from the corporate office as nodal officer in the identified divisions for monitoring and restoration of power supply.

Load Monitoring Cell in Tirupati is monitoring power supply positions in the region of cyclone-affected areas round the clock and issuing instructions time to time to the nodal and field officers.

A total of 62 teams were deployed in Nellore district, 54 teams in Chittoor district and 35 teams in Kadapa district. The Energy department suffered loss of Rs 2.84 crore in Nellore district, Rs1.36 crore in Chittoor district and Rs86.72 lakh in YSR Kadapa district.
