Vijayawada: Ambedkar remembered on Constitution Day
Vijayawada: Floral tributes were paid to Dr BR Ambedkar by Ministers, MLA and YSRCP leaders near Tummalapalli Kalakshetram here on Tuesday. Ministers Peddireddy Ramchandra Reddy, Kodali Sri Venkateswara Rao, MLA Malladi Vishnu, leaders Boppana Bava Kumar, Devineni Avinash and others were present.
Speaking on the occasion, Ramchandra Reddy said that Dr Ambedkar drafted the Constitution of India to eradicate untouchability in the country. He said that chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy was working in line with Ambedkar's ideals.
In this connection, the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and minority community leaders were given nominated posts and provided 50 percent reservation, said the Minister and added that through 'Navaratnalu,' all the people in the state were benefited by several welfare schemes.
Reddy recalled that Chandrababu Naidu insulted Dalits in many instances by saying 'No one will wish to born as a Dalit'. Attacks on Dalits were on the rise during TDP ruling, the minister added.
