Vijayawada: APSRTC cancels bus services
• Long distance services have been stopped on Saturday night itself
• Transport Dept instructs private operators not to run buses
Vijayawada: In response to the call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to observe one-day bandh 'Janata Curfew' on Sunday from morning to evening in view of the spread of coronavirus to many parts of the country, the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation has decided to cancel the RTC services on Sunday.
Transport Minister Perni Nani told the media in Machilipatnam on Saturday that all RTC buses will be confined to the depots on Sunday and all services will be cancelled.
He said the long distance services will be stopped from Saturday night. He said the Transport Department asked the private bus operators to stop the services on Sunday.
Referring to inter-State services and borders, he said the Tamil Nadu government has closed the border with Andhra Pradesh and not allowing vehicles passing towards Tamil Nadu but it is allowing only APSRTC buses.
He suggested the people to avoid long distance travelling for some weeks in view of the outbreak of coronavirus in the country. The APSRTC operates 10,000 buses within the State and to other parts of India.
The impact of Janata Curfew is already visible and bus services were reduced on Friday and Saturday.
