Vijayawada Benz Circle flyover to begin soon, Underpass and Approach Roads works near completion
The construction of Benz circle flyover near completion and is likely to begin soon. Rs. 740 crore has been sanctioned for widening the Vijayawada - Machilipatnam road into four lane. Of these, Rs 82 crore has been allotted to Benz circle flyover. The bridge, which was built with 49 pillars over 1,450 meters, began work three years ago in November 2016. Its construction is expected to be completed in two years. But due to land acquisition issues, court cases, obstructions and objections from locals there has been delay.
When the YSR Congress came to power, the government paid special attention to ensure that the bridge is completed as soon as possible. The work was progressing rapidly, considering the rails and the issues raised by the locals.
Approach road work on Eluru side is nearing completion. It is connected to the main road. The 14-meter-wide underpass work at Pakirigudem has also almost ended. The work is expected to be completed within the next 20 days. Construction of the retaining wall is also nearing completion. On the flyover, electric lights were installed. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is planning to launch the flyover in early January.
The availability of the Benz circle flyover will greatly alleviate the traffic woes of Vijayawada city residents. At present, lorries, buses and other vehicles are moving on the Kolkata-Chennai road. Flyover construction work is underway and regular vehicles are getting stuck in traffic. This traffic is taking a long time to get out off. This led to a car crash on the road leading to Benz circle. If a new flyover is available, vehicles traveling from Kolkata to Chennai will be allowed to cross the bridge. As a result, heavy traffic congestion on the flyover downtown areas will be significantly reduced and traffic will be reduced.
