Vijayawada: The trial run on Benz circle flyover was conducted successfully Monday evening. The flyover, built at a cost of Rs 80 crore by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), will be inaugurated by Union transport minister Nitish Gadkari shortly.

The works were awarded to Dilip Buildcon Limited in November 2016. The 2.35 km-long flyover has been built as part of the Machilipatnam-Hyderabad national highway and would address the traffic problem at the Benz circle in the city.

Citizens will get relief from the traffic problem with the completion of flyover works. The NHAI in co-ordination with the state government speeded up the approach road works and completed it successfully.

District collector Md Imtiaz, commissioner of police Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, deputy commissioners of police T Nagendra Kumar, V Harshavardhana Raju, NHAI project director Vidya Sagar, APTransco officials attended on the occasion.

Initially, vehicles passing from Elur towards Guntur will be allowed on the flyover. As part of the works, 880 metre approach road was laid on both sides. Speaking to media, district collector Imtiaz said the project construction works were delayed due to change of design and some technical reasons. He hoped the traffic problem may come down at Benz circle with the completion of the flyover and vehicles can pass from Ramavarappadu junction towards Varadhi. He said efforts were on to construct the second bridge as part of the project. Commissioner of police Dwaraka Tirumala Rao said the police department has made some suggestions to check accidents on the flyover. He said suggestion was given to NHAI for laying speed breakers to check mishaps and lighting will be arranged by APTransco.
