Vijayawada: Brave cops save drowning student

Vijayawada: With the timely action taken by the ASI Manikyak Rao, a drowning student was saved at Puligadda in Krishna district on Sunday.

The student jumped into the Krishna River at Penumudi varadhi in Puligadda. On receiving information about the incident, the Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police swung into action immediately. The Avanigadda police were participating in 'No-Accident Day' programme when they received the information from the motorists. They immediately reached the spot.

ASI Manikya Rao and constable Gopi Raju jumped into the river immediately and saved the student from drowing successfully. The student was shifted to the Aganigadda area hospital and is undergoing treatment.

DGP Gowtham D Sawang and other senior police officers appreciated the bravery of the ASI and the constable. According to reports, the ASI was close to his retirement.
