Vijayawada: City sways to Sufi compositions

Artistes performing at Ecstasy, a musical event in Vijayawada on Sunday

Vijayawada: Vijayawada city swayed to the Sufi compositions of legendary Urdu lyricists in the musical programme the Ecstasy, organised by SKS Aria, a cultural outfit at Kowtha Kala Vedika here on Sunday.

Songs like Arziyaan (Delhi 6), Khawaja Mera Khawaja (Jodha Akbar), Kun Faya Kun (Rockstar) and Bhardu Joli Mere Ye Mohammad (Bajranji Bhaijaan) all Sufi Qawwalis were an all-new experience to the music lovers of the city as they were rendered for the first time together in an event. The musical extravaganza was organised to highlight the new songs in Bollywood saw the crooners' veteran journalist Sridhar Jayaram along with Shanawaz and Pragyna belting out compositions from the baton of Pritam Chakraborthy, A R Rehman, Amaan Malik, Mithoon, Tanishk Bagchi, Ajay Atul and Sohail Rana.

Popular songs rendered by Atif Aslam (Woh Lamhe), Arjit Singh (Chhanna Mereya), Shreya Ghoshal (Agar Tum Mil Jaye), Mohit Chauhan (Tum Ho), KK (Tujo Mila, I am in love), Javed Ali (Arziyaan), Monali Thakur ( Moh Moh) and Kailash Kher (Arziyaan) were well appreciated by the audience who followed the Covid rules to perfections, The audience was repeatedly instructed by the anchor not to lower the mower and mingles freely with friends and sought social distancing while interacting.

The three-hour-long programme saw the organisers felicitating two senior artistes from the city musical fraternity - Mohammad Khaza of Mayur Orchestra and Elisha of Manoranjan Orchestra. Mohammad Khaja is a professional singer of more than 40 years of experience while Elisha is the most sought-after drummer with 39 years of experience. Md Nazeer Mahek, an Urdu teacher, added finesse to the event with his anchoring and sharing information about the compositions.
