Vijayawada: Cops foil cyber fraudster's attempt to cheat

Vijayawada: The cyber crime police helped a person to get back his money after he was cheated by an online cyber fraudster. According to city cybercrime police, one youth Dokka Mahesh, a resident of Guntupalli received a phone call from an unknown person that loan up to Rs 12 lakh will be sanctioned.

Mahesh trusted the caller and deposited Rs 27,000 in a bank account as suggested by him between December 26 and 28. However, the caller did not respond to phone calls of Mahesh after the incident. Mahesh suspected some foul play and approached the Vijayawada cybercrime police and lodged a complaint about the incident. The cybercrime police visited the concerned bank and spoke to the manager and narrated how the offender had cheated Mahesh promising a loan.

The cybercrime police helped Mahesh to get back Rs 22,674 from the bank account and booked a case on the caller. Mahesh met the Commissioner of Police Dwaraka Tirumala Rao on Monday and thanked the police for helping him to get back his money. The Commissioner of Police suggested the people not to trust unknown persons and share their bank detail. He asked them to personally visit the banks or financial institutions and get information about the loans. He said it was not safe to deposit money in accounts of other persons based on the phone calls and felt phone conversations were not safe.
