Vijayawada: Lambasting the State government for its failure even to supply an essential commodity like onion, CPM State executive member Ch Babu Rao demanded here on Thursday that the government should immediately supply onions to people.

The members of the CPM led by Donepudi Kashinath staged a protest demonstration after going through the Rythu Bazaar at the Swarajya Maidan. They raised slogans against the government.

Some of the consumers told the CPM leaders that the authorities are giving only one kg onions per person and that too rotten ones. The CPM activists demanded supply of 5 kg of onions for each family at reasonable rates and they should be made available at all the ration shops and village secretariats.

Babu Rao said that it was shameful that the Union minister announced in Parliament that 32,000 tonnes of onions were rotten in the central warehousing godowns. He said that the BJP government was least concerned with the problems of the people. CPM leaders D Vishnuvardhan, Bojadla Nageswara Rao and others also participated.
