Vijayawada: Dr Venu Gopal bags Mahatma Gandhi Award

Vijayawada: Noted diabetes specialist Dr K Venu Gopal Reddy received the most distinguished Mahatma Gandhi Award from Telangana Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan at a programme to mark Gandhiji's 150 birth anniversary at Birla Auditorium in Hyderabad recently. Himachal Pradesh Governor Bandaru Dattatreya and others were was also present on the occasion.

Dr Reddy has been extending medical services to the people through VGR Diabetes Specialty Hospital and VGR Trust. He entered into Limca Book of Records by organising essay-writing competition on diabetes to about 35,000 students to mark World Diabetes Day besides many awards and rewards to his credit.

Dr Reddy organised thousands of free health camps to the poor and awareness camps to educate people on diabetes to prevent the disease. He also participated in television and radio as part of his service activity to educate people on how to control diabetes. He also distributed books free to people on diabetes.

Dr Venu Gopal Reddy expressed his delight on receiving the prestigious Mahatma Gandhi Award and said that after receiving the award his responsibility has increased to serve the people.
