Vijayawada: Govt lecturers threaten to launch statewide agitation on November 23

Vijayawada: Lecturers working in the government degree colleges in Andhra Pradesh on Monday decided to launch agitation from November 23 demanding that the government immediately take up transfers of lecturers.

The degree college lecturers had submitted several representations for transfers to Ministers and officials umpteen times during the past three years but got no positive response. Finally, they have decided to launch an agitation across the State from November 23 sporting black badges.

Two important associations, the Government Degree Colleges Gazetted Teachers Association (GCGTA-AP) and the Government Colleges Teachers Associations (GCTA) have formed a Joint Action Committee (JAC) and submitted representation to Education Minister A Suresh and other senior officers of the Dducation department on their demands.

GCGTA-AP has said that they have no option but to start an agitation. The JAC leaders said the government lecturers would not attend the additional duties henceforth till their demands are conceded.

The JAC leaders said the lecturers are conducting online classes, preparing videos to teach lessons, conducting examinations, participating in seminars and workshops and doing other duties during the corona pandemic. They demanded that the Education department withdraw the orders issued on regulating the lecturers from taking the casual leave.

The JAC leaders said the state government issued GO for the transfer of only teachers working in the government schools but it ignored the request of the government lecturers on transfers.

They said last time transfers were done in 2017 and since then the associations submitted several representations to the Ministers and the senior officers of the Education department, but there was no response yet.
