Vijayawada: IRC-AP creates world record in blood donation

Vijayawada: Indian Red Cross Society created a new world record and entered the Guinness Book of World Records by collecting the consent of 10,217 persons to donate blood here on Saturday.

The Andhra Pradesh branch of Indian Red Cross Society organised the blood donation camp with 30,000 students of 35 colleges.

The representative of the Guinness Book of World Records, Rishnath announced the world record amidst the applause of audience at Devaiah Auditorium here.

AP branch chairman Dr A Sridhar Reddy received the certificate from the Guinness Book of World Records.

Earlier, Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan inaugurated the blood donation camp at 10 am which continued till 6 pm.

As many as 10,573 students who attained the age of 18 participated in the camp registering their names with the office-bearers of IRCS.

However, the officials finalised the names of 10,217 students and announced it was a record.

Krishna district branch of IRCS president and district collector A Md Imtiaz, AP branch vice-chairman Jaganmohan Rao, treasurer G Babu, Krishna branch chairman Dr G Samaram, general secretary Dr Ravi, joint collector-2 K Mohan Kumar and others were present.
