Confusion reigned after the Andhra Pradesh government withdrew the orders of Vijayawada lockdown within an hour of the announcement. On Tuesday night, Md Imitiaz, Krishna district collector passed the orders announcing seven-day lockdown in Vijaywada starting from June 26 due to the rise in coronavirus cases.

The collector also asked the public to purchase essential commodities within two days i.e on June 24 and June 25. The orders said that all the private, government offices and other establishments will remain closed for the entire week except a few stores selling essential items.

However, an hour after the announcement, the collector cancelled the order and said that no lockdown will be imposed until further notice. The collector said that strict measures will be taken in the view of the coronavirus cases being reported in rural areas of the district and Vijayawada. The measures in the non-containment zones will be decided later by the concerned authorities, he added.

Krishna district which reported a total of 549 cases is one of the worst affected districts after Anantapur and Kurnool which recorded a total of 621 and 592 cases respectively.
