Vijayawada: Man is responsible for gender of child said Dr Sarojini

Vijayawada: Dr Sarojini, retired DMHO, said that it's highly reprehensible that woman is held responsible for the gender of child particularly if it's girl child.

In fact, it is the man's chromosomes that determine the sex of a child and not woman, she added. But, unfortunately, it was the women who are blamed, she lamented.

She was addressing the meeting jointly organised by Andhra Loyala Walkers Association and Amaravati Runners here on Sunday to mark the celebration of International Women' Day.

Dr Sarojini hoped that the inhuman foeticide of girl child would stop.

Suhasini, retired Director of Women and Child Welfare department, said that the days were changing for better for women at large. She recalled that it was men who encouraged women to study and come up in life.

She regretted that in spite of the development, women are still looked down upon in the society. She expressed concern over the growing atrocities against women.

Prof MC Das said women should be respected in society to prove that it's a civilised society.

The women members of the association cut a huge cake celebrating the International Women's Day.

Ravi Ramesh Babu compered the programme in which several members of the Walkers Association participated.
