Vijayawada: New civic chief priorities garbage, traffic woes
Vijayawada: IAS officer V Prasanna Venkatesh assumed the charge as Commissioner of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation on Monday. He was transferred from Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority to the VMC on Saturday by the State government. Briefing media after assuming charge, Prasanna Venkatesh said that his priorities were addressing traffic problem and improvement of sanitation conditions in the city. He said Vijayawada should be made garbage-free city. "I have been observing traffic problems in the city for the last six months and will try to find permanent solution to check the traffic congestion," he added. Prasanna is the 2013 batch IAS officer. Earlier, he worked as the Joint Collector of Kurnool and later transferred to Director of APSDMA.
The VMC chief has stated that he wants to make the civic body free from corruption and appealed to the people to discourage giving bribes to officials. He further said he would respond to the complaints lodged by people and believes in team work. Heads of various departments in the VMC greeted the new commissioner after assuming the charge.
