Vijayawada: Officials told to conduct 3,000 Covid tests a day

Vijayawada: The medical personnel were instructed by the district administration to conduct 3,000 Covid-19 tests everyday in view of the growing number of coronavirus positive cases in the district.

District collector A Md Imtiaz while reviewing the functioning of the Covid hospitals and tests in the district here on Saturday told the officials to send the details of admission of positive cases and discharge of the cured patients online every day.

He told the officials to collect 1,000 samples in the rural areas and 2,000 samples in the urban areas to conduct tests every day. The health teams in three mobile Covid testing vehicles are collecting samples and seven more mobile teams would join on Sunday, he said.

The collector said that the zilla parishad CEO would supervise the sample collection in the rural areas the DMHO would supervise in the urban areas in the district.

He said that the tests are being conducted on all the symptomatic persons and so far 65,150 persons were covered.

He said that 20 medical teams would conduct 3,000 tests every day. He instructed the officials to provide quality food at the quarantine centre and take special care on sanitisation.

The collector said that the positive cases are being treated at the Pinnamaneni Siddhartha District Covid hospital and Nimrah Medical College. He instructed the Nimrah college management to increase the number of beds to 600 from the present 200 beds.

He instructed DMHO Dr Ramesh to increase the number of the staff.

Joint collector (development) L Ravi Sankar, joint collector (welfare) K Mohan Kumar, DRO A Prasad, DCHS Dr Jyotirmani, additional DMHO Dr Sastri, ZP CEO Suryaprakash, DRDA project director Srinivasa Rao, fisheries joint director Lal Ahmad and others were present.
