Vijayawada: People, the government urged to preserve heritage sites

Vijayawada: Heritage preservation is the collective responsibility of everyone, said V Chinna Veerabhadrudu, State Project Director, Sarvasiksha Abhiyaan and Commissioner of School Education.

He visited a photo exhibition on 'Preserving Heritage for Posterity' organised by the Cultural Centre of Vijayawada and Amaravati (CCVA) on its premises at Madhu Maalaxmi Chambers here on Tuesday.

Dr. E Shivanagi Reddy, CEO of the CCVA informed him on the neglected heritage sites, monuments, sculptures and inscriptions at various places in the State presented in the exhibition. He also briefed him on the heritage awareness campaign taken by CCVA in more than 270 villages for the past five years and how they successfully involved the local communities by sensitising them in safeguarding the collective heritage.

Dr Reddy made an appeal to Chinna Veerabhadrudu to include a few lessons on heritage preservation and deciphering inscriptions in the curriculum of the school education to create interest among schoolchildren.

Sunkara (VISA) Nagabhushanam and Kadiyala Venkateswara Rao, president of Puratana also participated in the programme.
